In December 2017, an investigation by ProPublica and The New York Times found that top employers like Goldman Sachs Group, Inc , Target Corporation , Amazon.com Inc. , United Parcel Service (UPS), and State Farm placed recruitment ads “limited to particular age groups,” on Facebook. The database of Facebook ads collected revealed how often and precisely employers were recruited by age and how Facebook users who were 40 or older were filtered out when it came to knowing about job openings. US-based United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest multinational package delivery company and provider of supply chain management solutions, was accused of discrimination in running an ad aimed at people 18-24 in a search for “part-time package handlers.” However, UPS defended its targeting as part of a broader recruitment strategy to reach candidates of all ages. Analysts said though it was difficult for UPS to answer such allegations, its strategy of recruiting through social media had brought positive results for the company. In 2014, it was ranked among the Top 50 recruiters on the popular social media channel Twitter for its innovative approach to recruiting.
